    Nan Tien Institute’s English for Academic Purposes is designed for students to improve their English to achieve their goals at university and higher education institutions. In this 12-week course, students will collaborate with their peers from around the world to successfully manage group projects at an academic level.

Course Outcomes

English for Academic Purposes will develop the following skills for students:

 

Listening

  • Follow lectures with relative ease and take notes on the main points

  • Follow complex interactions in group discussions and respond appropriately

Reading

 

  • read critically to find evidence which justifies a writer’s position in a text

  • scan through sources and read in detail if necessary your vocabulary

  •  

 

Writing

  • write well-structured texts of different academic styles with correct referencing 

  • write a paper giving an argument and evidence in support of or against a particular point of view and comparing the advantages and disadvantages

  •  

Speaking

  • participate in group discussions of advantages and disadvantages to reach a decision

  • give a well-structured presentation supporting points of view with relevant examples

 

Quality of Language

  • communicate with a high degree of accuracy and can correct mistakes if they have led to misunderstandings

  • have sufficient range of vocabulary to express themselves and find alternatives if they do not know a specific expression


 

Course Length and Contact Hours

The English for Academic Purposes Course is a 240 hour course, running for 12 weeks.

 
The course requires students to undertake 20 hours of study per week (dedicated EAP classroom instruction).


 

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement is IELTS 5.5 – 6.0 or

 
Nan Tien Institute Placement Test or

 
accepted equivalent (*see Entry Requirements Table on our website)

 
Minimum age 15 years old.


 

Course Cost

$3000 (12 weeks) at $250 per week (special offer)

 
Extra fees:
  • $95 material fee
  • $200 enrolment fee for international students

Certificate

You will be presented with a certificate at the successful completion of your course.
